Java hot again?

15 July 2007

I have been working on Microsoft technologies for the past many years, more than I would like to admit ;-) I do keep an eye on the developments in the archrival camp, “Java” from Sun Microsystems. I remember driving on US 101 in silicon valley during the glory days of Sun , circa 2000, I would see billboards saying “we are the dot in the dot com”. After that we saw the decline of Sun Microsystem and its stock, I personally lost some wealth held in Sun stocks which frankly has left a bad taste behind ;-( That was then, now, although the stock of Sun has not recovered as much , Java seems to be coming back or may already be back. I get this from some of the request I have been hearing from my clients in terms of developing cross platform applications in Java. I also hear this from some of my friends who are in senior position and looking for experienced Java developers. These are all anecdotal evidences and so far I have no concrete stats to prove it one or another, but seems like Java is roaring again!
